When is my gf arriving!?

... in the Singapore City bus,
to see Collyer Quay and Raffles Place
the durian head
and all of us. (why in the world do people want to see us?)

I was watching Jay Leno interview young American adults on the streets about their education. Most of them said they were good students. However, it was truly funny and sad at the same time the things they couldnt answer.
"When did Christopher Columbus discover America?"
"19 .. er.. "
Same person -- "What did Isaac Newton discover?"
"er.. was it the bomb?"

Other great American answers -- "What book did you do in school?"
"Of Mice and Men"
"Did you read it?"
"Yes."
"Do you know who wrote it?"
"Er.. No."
"What is it about?"
"Mice."

I WANT TO BE BATMAN LEH!!

Oh well, i guess i should have answered the "Are you a playboy" question with more of a "yes" orientation. Maybe it was the "Do you have a bad childhood" question. hahaha.

Hello?! Your team has Lehmann!

Knowing now all the Arsenal fans will be in full force saying Spurs are cheats I feel i have to come up and say something about Spurs' "unfair goal".
I really dont understand why everyone cant think straight and think that Spurs players should have more sportman-like etiquette. At first i thought i was biased but after viewing the replays again and again, i think i have compelling evidence that its Arsenal's own fault for their conceding a complacent goal.
For the moment, lets leave aside how Lehmann loves to get involved in every nitty gritty thing in every match, how he wastes time so 'effectively' and how he always falls down under any challenge in order to scold the opposition striker. Talk about sportsman-ship. Lets also not point out that Arsenal's goal was from a foul going unpunished by Adebayor.
Thus lets solely look at the evidence leading up to the goal. Eboue is chasing Carrick for the ball under the latter's control. Gilberto comes in from their front and tries to tackle Carrick off the ball. He hits the ball but it stays in Carrick's possession. He somehow clatters into Eboue after that. The ball from the melee trickles to the byline, Carrick catches up with it before it goes out, he passes to Tainio, who passes to Davids who sets up Keane to score.
Thus Carrick is supposed to kick the ball out because the two Arsenal players are down injured? Question: If a player tries to dribble the ball, he gets past two players and they clatter into each other and lie down injured, is he supposed to kick the ball out for sportsmanlike behaviour?? Then whats the point of dribbling if the opposition gets mesmerized and beaten by you and you still have to kick the ball out?! I clearly do not recall anyone doing this, in fact they usually say that the dribbler is skillful. And if they start having to kick the ball out; every opposition would keep feigning injury once they get dribbled past, so much for Sportsmanship. So why should Carrick kick the ball out if he emerges with the ball cleanly. He might not have done some brilliant dribbling move then but the parallel drawn is a fair one in soccer.
Question 2: If A tackles B and emerges with the ball and the referee waves play on, although B seems to be writhing on the ground, is he supposed to continue? Of course he can. Every soccer watcher knows players tend to fake some falling down or dive when they lose the ball to get the referees' symphathy and maybe the ref will give a foul to them. But if the decision does not go their way then too bad. So why should Carrick kick the ball out when it wasnt even him making the challenge in the first place.
I would also like to add that Gilberto was getting up when the pass by Tainio was made to Davids. Thats right! Get up and continue playing like all teams do when they do not get a foul they think they deserve. It happens in every game. What is Arsenal complaining about?!?! If they cant play to the referee's whistle then they only have themselves to blame.
Sportsmanship is not just the act of kicking the ball out. If i challenge someone robustly and he seems to be injured i can CHOOSE to kick the ball out if the referee waves play on. Thats because the other player might just be faking it in order to get the referee to blow for a foul in the first place. This scenario has nothing to do with Sportsmanship if you ask me. Its a simple case of a challenge by Gilberto that is not effective and the opposition goes on to score because there was one less person in defence. It just so happened that Eboue was unfortunate to be clattered into by Gilberto while his own man made the challenge.

I rather play chess

Please read the following post in its entirety before you say i am insulting the government. I do not make BIG grandoise claims on what is wrong in what current system. Or how it can be made better. I declare that i think PAP has done a good job so far. Because no one can tell the future. More opposition might help us, it might not. I dont really care, i rather play chess.
I just took out 4 minutes of the clip to show that sometimes, people are wrongly accused and many a times we always support the better speaker. I was laughing at how the guy got put down by MM Lee, and decided to blog about it because i found it hilarious. I have zero political inclinations in the respect of blogging.
Having said that, i think my points are fair as can be seen by viewing the clip. I insult no one. I just comment on the evidence. I do not presume to say who is right or wrong overall after the dialogue. People should learn to form their own opinions. I think with regards to that portion of the clip, both sides have valid and invalid points. Therefore, no one is going to convince me to delete the following post. I like it. It makes me laugh and that makes me happy.

The following title refers to no one in particular. Its just that i saw this phrase saying " the ideals of the revolution must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of tyrants" and i was thinking how, to me, that will never work. Because from personal biblical convictions i think only love brings about lasting change. Bloodshed only breeds more tyrants. But i am no idealist, we humans cannot do it. I bet history is full of instances where we just kill to get into power until someone else kills us. HAHAHA. The irony is amazing.

Can Tyrants Commit Treason?

Before i say anything that gets me exiled by the government or bankrupted like Chee Soon Chuan, let me say that I hate politics. Only God can be a fair and just ruler. One day the world will be whole again. I await anxiously. But at the mean time i watched http://tomorrow.sg/node?from=20 where MM Lee had a discussion with 10 young voters.

I think in a sense such dialogues are quite a waste of time. Not that it doesnt have information in it; kind of waste of time , but that people are not amicable in such situations. And how can it be?!??! Most of the time people want others to concede something is wrong with the current e.g. parliament, system, group etc. And the other side tries to defend and robustly refute all their claims. In a dumb down version, its like saying Johnny Depp is sexier than Brad Pitt. Opinions differ, only now the stakes are higher and the issues more pertinent and the arguments more heated because it affects "our future and our rights as a human". So no one is going to give in. Very seldomly are they, at least in my opinion.

Relatedly, I think mutual respect as evidenced in the dialogue was scarce. I think some of the journalists were so out to get MM Lee. (just my general feeling, granted -- you can disagree with me, unlike what the video seemed to convey about the 2 parties of the dialogue). However, i think MM Lee should not laugh immediately after peoples' questions or comments. He has every right to do so definitely, he of course has done more than any of them, (probably all of them put together) but i think most people in normal conversations will not really like it if that happens. Especially when opinions are clearly differing, this laughing gives an air of dismissiveness that i feel only breeds more animosity.
Also, regarding the part where he talks about him being an ex-cross examiner and tells the guy to substantiate his claim about people being afraid to vote is REALLY interesting. Watch this part (12-15 mins into the clip i think-- arnd there). The poor guy actually really DID NOT say "100 out of 100/120 people surveyed are afraid" as adamantly claimed by MM Lee. He said in the context of 'people might be afraid to answer his survey because they either said "no comment or if i vote against the PAP i may..." My question is why the personal attack? He also did not say "I" he said "we". Yes, MM Lee is convincing and charming but laughing at peoples remarks and having more forceful answers is not necessarily the accurate way. Why is the poor guy purveying a "falsehood? " He is conducting an honest survey and by the way its really not his job to tell people that "You dont have a right to be afraid" as accused by MM Lee. He is just out there getting people's sentiments on who do they think will win the upcoming elections, but some of them refuse to give certain answers to certain questions -- thats all i can deduce from the discussion.

Surveys are tricky stuff arnt they, but i think its a fair assumption when people refuse to answer a survey is because they are AFRAID of revealing certain things. Unless they refuse to answer the FIRST question. If they refuse to answer the whole thing, maybe its because htey are in a hurry or cant be bothered or feel its a waste of time and not so much they are afraid. THIS is what MM Lee should have asked. Not go on about a tirade on how he puts down his grandchildren when they get out of line. Also "You said that , its on tape, my memory has not failed me. " Sorry, as everyone can go back on the clip and check like i have, MM Lee is wrong in this regard. The poor guy WAS unfairly put down and his argument dismissed by poor pointers. The other counterarguments MM Lee made was also poor on "who conducted the survey?" "Dont give me about the Straits Times!". Why the personal attacks again?! Obviously he did not consider that the guy could be a working journalist, which i think is really insulting to ask him "Did you conduct the survey" And waiting for a SHOCKING revelation "yes i did." Why discredit all the surveying journalist by saying you conducted the survey on only 40 people, dont say 100. Its a matter of technical problem now. If the other surveyors join the discussion then your argument is basically foundationless and relying on scare tactics. This then boils down to the question of are you saying all his friends are unreliable at collecting data. Why must he only talk about his own data. To reiterate he used "we" not "I" in an effort to bring in the topic of fear in the survey. He could very well have used "in a recent survey conduted by Straits Times" to start his statement and now you can see that all the subsequent hammerings were irrelevant. Also they just need to ask people "Are you afraid to answer political questions about the PAP?" in their next survey to get a response to the "divine" question.

Therefore, the answer to people's fear is simple. There is nothing to fear. Its not my business or my job to tell anyone this. But its true. No one has been gunned down or secretly murdered because they voted for the opposition. The PAP is not like other dictatorships through history that have secret services to kill supporters of opposition. If people are afraid its because they just want to be. Full stop. I am not saying anyone is wrong. Its just that i felt it genuinely humourous that the question was not answered properly and the poor guy got scolded for nothing.

Exe...cute me

Its the holidays, why am i trying to find time to go running? Makes sense doesnt it? Well, not like most of my other execuses that i make in bed to not go running in the morning. I pity my housemate who listens to such nonsense.
1. " My eye lid has a cut last night from soccer"
2. " My ear is stuck"
3. " Its too cold"

During easter, i was wondering what if Jesus decided to make some excuses to die for the sins of the world. And he had a great reason to want to escape from it as well. He was running from death.

Im forgiven
because you were forsaken
im accepted, you were condemned
im alive and well
your spirit is within me
because you died and rose again
Amazing love, how can it be?

that you, my king. would die for me

The Muppets painted the ward manila-

THE 2nd extension

There’s another one of those fitbone patients. Isn’t he already tall enough? There should be one of those cardboard mannequins you see at the circus rides to indicate height requirements. If you are longer than the surgical table by a toenail, you don’t qualify.

Ah… but isn’t he a celebrity too… what’s his name? Many famous people are doing this these days.

And even celebrities need an extension as we can see. His family has asked for 3 more weeks! To get him a longer bed.

Has the doctor approved?

Here he comes now. You can ask him.

So doctor grouch, regarding Big Bird’s extension…

Ah nurse Marie, there’s no end to this nonsense, really. We took three hours to make him longer, and they need three weeks for his bed. And look at all these feathers of his… I say no- no more extension. He’ll just have to make do with his old bed.

Erm doctor, I just received news from Sesame Street on the Chinese channel. It seems like they’ve just received a new import of quality bird’s nest.

Anything you wish, Jellyfish

The many floral printed blouses are what her contemporaries are wearing this age. Some vibrant, others more staid but surely they are the same small blooms on the cooling fabric. As she lifts her umbrella from the stand, we happen to see that the weather is perfect. But her accessories always match and today it is burberry brown to match the sunnies perched on her nose. She is off to sell her remaining pieces of jade to the world of platinum and princess-cut diamonds for the newly-weds. But this jaded housewife takes her time with her motions. The slow abandonment takes the flurry of the morning crowd by surprise and the red sea parts for her.

The outing has been a tad too strenuous for her. She rails at me to put the clothes out to sun; to bring in the clothes lest it rains; to stop the rain from falling- Loose soft skin that hangs in unlikely fashion is far removed from the supple, lithe form of our sun-kissed youth. No massage can bring back its tone. But every touch sends warmth coursing down her veins and tugs the edges of her mouth, like tugging the sun from behind the clouds. We feel impatient at her helplessness, intensified by all that gerontology 203 cannot teach.

Her gaze on me is disconcerting but I know that I’m mere form without features. Like television you watch without glasses. She calls me loudly to hear the direction and distance of my voice, only to catch the sound of my irritation. This is the same heartbeat that bounces from the walls in echo, “Anything you wish, Jellyfish.”

Long overdue tribute to grandma Tan Joo Tian. - Louise Tay '06

Amazing Post

Since we are on the topic of songs; i was wondering if anyone has realised this lyrics in the christian chorus "Heart of Worship".
When the music fades/And all is stripped away/And I simply come
Longing just to bring/Something that’s of worth/That will bless Your heart
I-ll bring You more than a song/For a song in itself/Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within /Through the way things appear/You-re looking into my heart
CHORUS: I-m coming back to the heart of worship/And it-s all about You/It-s all about You, Jesus
I-m sorry, Lord for the thing I-ve made it/And it-s all about You/It-s all about You, Jesus

What i do not understand is the part where it goes "I-m sorry, Lord for the thing I-ve made it" -- what exactly does it mean? More recently i thought the song breaks (emphasized by me with slashes) did not correspond to the sentence, phrase breaks. Which meant that it could be something like apologising for certain things and now I have made it. E.g. "I am sorry Lord for the things. (But now) I have made it (Yipee)!! However, most of my cell members found this explanation incredibly nonsensical and highly unlikely. Maybe the simpler explanation is that its just more coherent way of making the song flow nicely, instead of saying 'Sorry for all the bad things i have done throughout my life'.
Anyway, the song is really nice, and ties in nicely with love and supporting each other for what we can be, and not for what we appear to be now. Its always comforting to remember that somewhat comically, the angel of the Lord called Gideon a 'Mighty hero'; declaring this while Gideon was 'threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide from the Midianite oppressors'.

" The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said ,'Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!' "

Better Forever

" Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins" 1 Peter 4:8

It just so happened that i read this verse after listening to the extremely overplayed Bon Jovi song "Always". I think the album is rather old, maybe 10 years or more ago, but i still vividly remember getting confused by the chorus.
"Yeah I will love you baby Always And I'll be there forever and a day Always I'll be there till the stars don't shine Till the heavens burst and words don't rhyme And I know when I die You'll be on my mind And I'll love you always"
I could never figure out what was being sung during "forever and a (?)day(?)", i think if you didnt know the lyrics it might have been really hard to decipher as well. I would crane my neck to the hifi speakers years ago in hopes of finally getting the ephiphany on what the elusive word was. "A deep?", " A beep?", "Aggrieved?", "A leave?" Till this day I still do not really think he articulates the word 'day' very well in the song.
I guess its also because 'forever and a day' is a bit of a strange phrase. Beautiful definitely, but sometimes forever is already long enough. Its been said that people are in this world to practice loving. Its a testing ground; for when we go to heaven, we should be ready to get along for eternity. I dont think people will be too chuffed about sincerely tolerating my obnoxiousness for a never ending period of time. I wonder if i would get to sing "Always" as well. Might get thrown out of heaven for that though.

A SuperHero that doesnt kill.

Ever wondered why superheroes in comics and cartoons are always fighting? It is because people want to watch as well as see violence and displays of incredible strength. If someone invented a Superhero that could shoot lovey-dovey rays so that everyone would reconcile, he would probably not be very popular. In fact, i think there are super villians exhibiting that kind of power. Its more to the effect of making the heroes turn soft and hints that not being able to wham and bam is an inherently bad thing. E.g Poison Ivy against Batman. Also that Captain Planet boy who had the power of heart was always the most unpopular in make-believe games. No one wanted to be him, i admit, me included. He was wimpy.
You know how those advertisements on TV (they're everywhere actually, now that i think about it) where they find the ideal match for someone? I think its dumb. They always claim to use advanced methods of pairing and then they ask you for superficial details like your zodiac sign and height. Here's one of the many excellent examples: I saw this link on friendster about finding a perfect partner through sms. http://perfectlover.com.au
Thus i decided to try it in order to slag it to bits. Because deep down everyone knows that it cannot be logically proven that asking such peurile questions will amount to anything other than people who have the same age as you. Do not get me wrong, i have no comments about those sites where people meet for 'shallow' and 'personal' reasons. But i take offence on preying on peoples' search for ultimate love and belonging.
However, after filling in all the 'relevant' details, i got back an sms then kind of shocked me. It was true!! I could not argue with it watsoever. I was at a loss for words when i got this sms on my mobile phone: 'This feature is unavailable from your service due to rate plan restrictions or insufficient funds (I had money in my card confirm). Dial 555 for balance information." Thanks a lot; so much for true love. Like nailing jelly to a goat.

Love is a many splendid thing

"You are never persuasive when you are abrasive"
I was reading through some love poems that e-card sites "recommend" you use. However, i think many of them are rather more hilarious than romantic. Here's some i got from loveyou.com. I have excerpted from 3 poem templates the site labels as 'Miss You (1), (2) & (3)'

I think of you in silence, I often speak your name.
But all I have are memories, And a photo in a frame.
Heartaches in this world are many, But mine is worse than any.

My heart still aches as I whisper low, "I need you... and miss you so."

Wishing you were here, Trying not to shed a tear,
Wanting to hold you near, I lie awake at night,
Wondering what you're dreaming?

But that's not possible you see

With you so far away from me.
I will lie awake at night, Till dawn's morning light, Until Time becomes my friend, And we are together again.

This vast distance, The miles between us, Drives me crazy. Baby, are you crazy too?
My love stretches, All these miles to you. Can you feel the love, I give to you?
I miss you like crazy, I'm so incomplete, I crawl into bed, Then cry myself to sleep.

I wonder whether people actually write such poems for a living.

"If i speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If i have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if i have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If i give all i possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing."

Vif I vad vings I vould Vly

I recently caught the film V for Vendetta. I rather enjoyed it. There wasnt an over-abundance of action sequences to make one exhausted. At the same time, there was a certain message and an idea to make people think about serious issues. I do not want to spoil the movie for people who havnt watched it, so the synopsis is only going to be brief for comparison purposes.
Basically, V is a "super-hero"/ terrorist/ vigilante figure who decides to bring down the government by assasinating important political figure heads. However, his ultimate plan is not so simple as will be revealed while watching the show. His vindication comes because he believes that the present government have all conspired to come into power. Furthermore, they have used the doctrine of caring for the nation as a means of oppression and silent obedience.
Seriously speaking, i thought the plot was refreshing and interesting. However, i sincerely doubt whether its viable. If we just look at the world now, people who come together under a common cause is a regular phenomenon, granted. On the other hand, when there is violence and tyranny involved, knives and explosives never solve anything. Its true that when people start injustly massacring another group for flaky reasons that the weak must be defended. But i personally feel that protection through force never results in long term solutions. Sadly, we witness it everyday.
I am not a dreamer, and i do not think me blogging about bible verses can ultimately change the world. But i know that at least ONE person can be more tolerant of ONE other person this week if they try to remember what God said. Even if i could twirl and throw knives with lightning reflexes, i guess i could only really change a make-believe world in Hollywood.

" Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples" -- John 13:35 (NLT)
