Captain America's Shield floating in the horizon

"This is a travesty!"
"In my 20 years of football, i have never witnessed such a poor refereeing decision."

Those were the words of commentator Niall Quinn as the ball bounced 2 feet past the goal line of Roy Carroll's goal. At the same time, i was hopping around wildly in the living room shouting intermittently at the TV screen and Timothy sitting innocently on the sofa, goggle-eyed. What a grave injustice that Spurs were denied a clear goal at 6 am this morning.

Granted Man Utd had the better chances and our lack of strikers due to injuries made us rather lame going forward. But there are moments in football when you take that slice of good fortune with open arms. That was such a moment robbed, discarded and drowned. A moment lingering in the depths of my subconcious for 14 years. The insults and taunts of being a Spurs fan all my life resurfaced in that very second the ball bounced. The adrenaline burst forth like a bowl of chainsaws as i leapt to celebrate what could have been just reward for one of the best known cases of long suffering. Hope overflowed, then duely subsided. If only they knew about my trauma induced psychological problems from being a childhood supporter of Tottenham Hotspur. If only they realised the sheer panic i had walking to school after a Spurs-Man Utd match.

Alas, such a disastrous decision is trivial with regards to the world stage. But at 6 am taday, my world evaporated away.
