Confusion is only in the mind.

I recently read the book "Travels in the Scriptorium" by Paul Auster. Who is definitely one of my most favourite authors.
I really liked the book and would give it i think 4/5 stars. Sunday fiction review on the 7th Jan gave it 3.
But its really a metaphysical use of language. I think the reviewer did very well to compare it with the movie Memento by Chris Nolan. Its kind of a confusing book where nothing really gets resolved. But its like the plot is the reader. If that makes sense.
However i think its a really interesting exploration of language. And its not overly depressing a storyline, so i thoroughly recommend it. Another plus point is that its only 130 pages long -- i read it in one sitting.
I think throughout the book any reader would find it very exiciting, but its only at the end that the readers can conclude if they really like what the author is trying to do or not. With a protagonist like Mr Blank and a title with the word "Scriptorium" do not expect it to be a normal work of fiction. Having said that, i highly recommend it for the sake of getting a different feel of what fiction can be.

Science is about the world.

A Singaporean teacher asks Xiao Bao,
"Which one of the following 3 things is a vegetable? Your choices are 1. Milk 2. Egg and 3. Potato. "

Xiao Bao replies earnestly, "Actually ah teacher, only milk is not vegetable leh."

"Are you sure? Please think again ok Xiao Bao?" The teacher queries.

After some deliberation, the student answers,
"Really la. I very sure. Cos i always go hawker centre order the Cai Fan and the uncles always tell me that potato and egg count as vegetable."

One for the new year!

As i declared on Mishi's blog that i have A (YES ONLY ONE!!) new year resolution; here it is.
1.(and only 1.) Eat slower, digestion begins at the mouth.
I think i eat really fast. And i am beginning to feel the effects of indigestion as my age also catches up on me. FYI, this is also Louise's resolution for the year.
I only have one resolution because if i make too many i never keep them. I had the resolution 'to take over the world' for a few years now and still i am stuck in annonymity. Usually i make the resolution in jan, stop doing it in feb and stop trying in march. Although some may argue that its more like stop doing it on the 3rd of jan and forget it on the 5th.
However, this new and IMPROVED resolution is easier to keep cos other people can help me by reminding me while i am eating in the midst of them. So hopefully i will finally take over the world this year, er.. i mean eat slower.

The Return of the Skink

Ah, i finally have regained the flavour of blogging. Actually i shouldnt speak too soon. Been so busy planning and contemplating my future path in life that writing has taken a back seat. Probably not seated in fact, relegated into the boot.
Having said that, boring people with what i have been up to the past 3 months this blog has been inactive is, as mentioned above, boring. Thus, i want to add my comments on the relatively new and overplayed advertisement on the TV, Sony Veira or is it Viera?
I just have one question, " how come the boy goes into the TV with his soccer shoes and socks on?" This is fundamental to the selling of the TV, because it shows that people who buy this TV will make their kids so overly addicted to television that the latter will not be able to distinguish reality from fantasy.
Its ok if we suspend our disbelief of the idea of going into the pitch through the television. But its absolutely nonsense that he was wearing his soccer boots and socks in the house at the time of the soccer match. Now which is weirder?
BTW, a skink is a kind of reptile. That Louise thinks looks absolutely hideous. I wonder what the skinks think we look like. The skinks probably dont think we look like kings. For one thing, skinks are not the ones wearing pink mink.
